Last weekend took me (literally) down the road to Bramhall to photograph a 30th birthday celebration for the daughter of a good friend of mine. The location (being a typical clubhouse) didn’t offer wonderful environmental light and I was loathed to rely on flash photography throughout, so I took the decision to raise the camera’s ISO setting (for some shots as high as 12,800) and dragging the shutter to mix in ambient and flash lighting.
With the right crowd atmosphere, birthday celebrations can offer some charming candid opportunities. Katie’s event offered the perfect mix of young and old generations, intimate conversationalists and party animals – oh and did I mention a chocolate fountain? The perfect ingredients of a great night for Katie and a pleasurable shoot for me!
