Wedding – Yasmin and Tom at Stockport Town Hall

Wedding – Yasmin and Tom at Stockport Town Hall

Yasmin and Tom contacted me via my website form after looking through my galleries and we quickly arranged a zoom meeting to answer all their questions before they asked me to be their Stockport Town Hall wedding photographer. Stockport Town Hall is a Grade II listed building with renaissance architecture, built in 1905 and given the nickname “The Wedding Cake”, due to the stunning marble tiered clock tower above the main entrance. This landmark building is quite popular with couples who want to get married locally. Yasmin and Tom chose the Marble Staircase for their ceremony, although fairly dark inside, provides a very decorative backdrop.

Once booked, we arranged a pre-wedding meeting in their local bar “Malt Disley” – what a great name! I think that where possible, putting faces to names ahead of a ceremony is important and it helps to build trust and familiarise ourselves with each other so we’re not total strangers on the day. Tom works in Lyme Park, which is a National Trust property, so I was excited to gain access there for their formal photos (after some form-filling).

Yasmin had very thoughtfully written and framed a poem for her mum which brought tears of joy as it was presented during the bridal prep. The journey from Disley to Stockport Town Hall takes some time and in a way it is a good way of settling any nerves before arrival. The ceremony went without a hitch (nobody fell down the stairs!) and the vows exchanged were heartfelt, witnessed by their family and friends. Then outside for the confetti walk – there was a lot of confetti! With that done, we made our way to Lyme Park for the formal pictures, which was a pleasure to shoot as our location felt exclusive.

With the portraits in the bag, we made our way to High Lane Cricket Club, where the food was BBQ and there was a bouncy castle and ice cream van to keep their guests entertained – perfect! This relaxed environment encouraged people to let their hair down, and once the cake cut and first dance to Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, the dance floor soon filled up as they danced the night away. Yasmin and Tom are a lovely couple, and I wish them the best with their journey into married life.
